"Rue Collinge is a vital new voice in the UK poetry scene: her work is innovative, poignant, and exciting."

Nadine Aisha Jassat

After a number of years without her voice - which she needs for everything! - Rue is regaining it after an operation. In 2025, she was awarded the Disabled Poets Prize for her pamphlet ‘How to train your Dragon’, now out with Verve Poetry Press! You can buy a signed copy for your book hoard here, or read more about the Prize here.

From day to day, Rue writes, works and performs between home and hospital waiting rooms. Her humour, energy and passionate belief that everyone has a story to tell finds her in schools, lecture halls, community spaces and on stage. She is a fierce advocate for the arts and disability.

She was awarded a Distinction for her Masters in Creative Writing from Newcastle University in 2019, and was nominated Student Orator for the Awards Ceremony. She graduated with First Class Honours from her Undergraduate at the University of Sunderland, at the top of her class.

Since then, she has performed nationally for the BBC, was a semi-finalist in BBC Words First, has appeared on the radio, and has headlined festivals as a spoken word artist. She was the UK Online Slam Champion for Oooh Beehive in 2020.

She won the Philip Larkin Poetry Prize in 2020, and is a Pushcart and Forward Prize Nominee. She is published in numerous magazines and anthologies. â€‹
